Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at fame with mainstream artists were not successful. Perry was signed to two labels and then dropped by both labels before any recordings had been released. Capitol Records, however, issued Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with moderate success for the album's title track. I Kissed a Girl - an ode to sexual curiosity dropped a couple of months later. The track featured a raunchy electro-pop style and an assertive position. The song caused controversy with some critics accusing it of encouraging homosexual relationships, and some asserting that the explicit sexual scene was created to appeal to the men's fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became an international number-one single due to its combination of sexual enticement and a refined melody. It also helped her sell more albums, such as The One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with its second hit single also became a huge hit. The album Perry composed by herself sold more than three million copies.
